Well, it seems like a long time ago!

This started out as a sort of CV, but is now becoming more of an autobiography...

1959

Mark was born in Coventry February 1959. I don't remember it, but apparently I was there.

This was the year that the first bit of the M1 motorway was opened. Black and white TV, no PCs, no calculators, no digital watches, no mobile phones, no internet etc.

1962

January got a brother (Adrian) and sister (Amanda) on the same day.

1963

Went to Wyken Croft infants and junior school.
This seems to have managed to hang on to its extensive grounds over the years - maybe something to do with it being next door to the River Sowe nature reserve.

I noticed other kids learning to play the recorder.
I don't know why I didn't do it at school, but my parents bought me a recorder and I taught myself to play it.

I started reading quite late.
Probably comics that got me started at all.
I remember a sense of wonder I had when I could 1st read the signs on the shops at the top of the road.
Never really caught up - I still read slowly now (about half average speed), but I usually get it all.

In my last year there I was head boy, which didn't seem to mean much, apart from the fact that I had to leave lessons just before the end to ring a bell.
I was bought a watch so that I could do this.

We were taught some French, which was probably a great help later.

Passed my 11+ exam.
