early electric power gliders helicopter indoor technology future

I always liked the idea of a helicopter, and read about how they worked while still at school.
However, they were, and still are relatively horribly expensive, not to mention difficult (and dangerous) to fly.
Now, modern technology in the form of carbon fibre, piezo gyros, computer radio have answered some of the problems.

The nice thing about helicopters is the hover - no need to peer into the distance and try to figure out which way it's pointing.
At the same time it is more difficult.
A fixed wing aircraft can pretty well be flown with just 2 channels, or 1 stick i.e. ailerons/elevator.
The throttle can be left alone until you want to stop.
With a helicopter, you need to control the downthrust all the time, and that tail needs steering too - 4 controls to worry about all the time.
